One of the most common causes of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients who are staying overnight in the hospital is associated with the use of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) devices.

  1. Can the prophylactic use of ondansetron reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting seen with PCA use?
  2. Can the prophylactic use of droperidol reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting associated with PCA use?
